Lawson’s Desperate Bid To Distance Charity From In-Law Monckton’s Homophobic Rant

Lord Lawson’s climate denial charity, the Global Warming Policy Foundation, has this week attempted to distance itself from fundraiser Lord Monckton’s extraordinary homophobic rant.

Lord Monckton published an uncharitable and spiteful attack on the “homosexual death style” under the headline “Left Fears Facts: From ‘Gay’ Marriage to Climate Change”.

The former Tory party advisor and UKIP member said: “Does homosexuality cause harm? As the author of Romans rightly points out, it does. It makes homosexuals ill. And then it kills them. Unpleasantly, permanently and irremediably…”

And is the Church – today splendidly represented by the 34,000 black-led churches – wrong to point out that homosexuality, like smoking, carries with it the prospect of a short, miserable, disease-ridden life followed by a painful and untimely death?”

He added: “Public policy on questions from homosexuality to climate change – where the left is similarly cavalier with the facts (just read any statement from Mr. Obama about the climate) – should be determined on the basis of fact as well as fashion and sentiment.”

Monckton has consistently claimed that he was intimately involved with the GWPF from its inception and even fundraised tens of thousands of pounds for the climate denial charity.

But almost everything he says needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. He claims to be a member of the House of Lords even after the House of Lords confirmed he is not and he claims to have been a science advisor to former prime minister Margaret Thatcher when all the evidence suggests that this is simply not true.

Lord Lawson’s son, Dominic is married to Monckton’s sister, Rosa. Monckton says climate change and other political controversies are often discussed at the dinner table.

But Dr Benny Peiser, the director of the GWPF, said this week: “Christopher Monckton has never fundraised for the GWPF, neither has he donated any funds to or been involved in any activities of the GWPF.”

Lord Lawson failed to respond to a request to comment and Peiser failed to specifically address Monckton’s comments on LGBTQ rights and climate change.
